********************************************* News from the Montana Libertarian Party PO Box 4803 Missoula, MT 59806 Contact Mike Fellows (406) 721-9020 For Immediate Release: August 30, 2002 ******************************************* Now is not the time to add another TAX say Libertarians Missoula MT ? The tourist tax advisory board is meeting today to try and setup another revenue scheme and Libertarians are saying now is not the time to add another tax say Libertarian State Chair Mike Fellows. "These so-called tourist taxes are nothing more then sales taxes and Montana Citizens will be paying most of those taxes," says Fellows. The Martz administration really isn't concerned about the idea of downsizing state government but looking at ways to enhance the state coffers and enhance her chances of getting re-elected in 2004. Montana needs to start reducing the tax burden on Montana Citizens said Fellows, not increase it by way of another tax. "We all know that the administration is promising to reduce income taxes, but if the new proposed scheme doesn't work then it will be business as usual in Helena." It's time to eliminate income taxes completely and let Montanans prosper. As Labor Day comes up it's time we think about the burdens of government at all levels on a small populated state like Montana. Unlike a business, government doesn't produce any products, it simply redistributes, what it takes from its citizens, said Fellows. Libertarians are proposing that we exempt all items from the sales tax and eliminate the income tax. Wouldn't all sides be happy? "The sales tax supporters would have a sales tax, citizens would be exempt from paying the sales tax and we would eliminate a tax." What a good way to help people as we celebrate Labor Day said Fellows. The Libertarian Party believes in small government and less taxes. Under a libertarian administration state spending would not have increased by 150 percent since the 90's as reported by the Missoula Independent this month. # # #
